Acceptable common courtesy is allowing women and the elderly on the bus first. It is hard to believe that any gentleman would venture to think that he should board the bus before allowing a lady that privilege.

   Example: I was the first to arrive at a bus stop with a lady walking in right behind me and then a young man carrying a paper tube while smoking a cigarette. Guess who was first on the bus?
